Care Ministries
Sharing the love of God through
spiritual and practical support
Welcome Ministry
It is our intent that all who enter Forest Brook will find warmth and acceptance. The friendly staff at the Welcome Centre are eager to provide newcomers and visitors with directions, information about our ministries and answers to any questions they might have. We are always excited to welcome individuals and families who are new to Forest Brook and invite them to get better acquainted with us at our regularly scheduled Newcomer’s Luncheon.
Encouragement and Practical Care Ministry
Various caring ministries exist to provide encouragement, support and practical care to one another during times of both joy and sadness. Written notes of encouragement, flowers and gifts, provision of hot and frozen meals, transportation to medical appointments and assistance with in-home maintenance for those with special needs (Trading Graces ministry) are just a few of the practical ways in which we care for our church community. We also celebrate upcoming marriages and the arrival of first babies with showers.
Stephen Ministry
We all experience challenges in life; times when we could benefit from the support of a caring Christian to walk through a crisis or ongoing struggle with us. Stephen Ministers are trained caring individuals who provide confidential one-on-one Christian care to those experiencing difficulties in their lives. For more details on this ministry click here.
Visitation Ministry
Often during challenging circumstances, a personal visit in your home, at the hospital or over coffee is helpful and encouraging. One or more of a group of caring individuals will be pleased to meet with you and share your concerns.
Bereavement Ministry
As a church family we seek to provide compassion, love and comfort during times of death and bereavement. We offer loving guidance, ongoing grief support and pastoral counseling in the midst of crisis. Assistance with final arrangements and the planning and leading of funeral/memorial services and receptions are available. A special reception is held in December each year for all those who are bereaved.
Benevolent Ministry
From time to time, families and individuals find themselves in financial difficulties due to unexpected crisis, illness or unemployment. Depending on the individual circumstance, assistance in the form of financial counseling and/or provision of emergency funding and food and basic necessities is provided. At Christmas, we seek to demonstrate God’s love in a very practical way by providing Christmas baskets of food and gifts to needy families.
Support Groups
For individuals facing specific challenges in their lives, be they emotional, physical, spiritual or relational, Forest Brook hosts support groups which provide a safe, non-judgmental place to help and encourage each other and nurture their faith in Christ. Based upon biblical principles and mutual care, there is currently one group for women, which is facilitated by a trained Christian counsellor.
